Most clip-on earrings ask your ear to adapt to them. The closure arrives at one tension, set at the factory, and your lobe either suits it or it doesn't. Adjustable clip on earrings work the other way around: the earring adapts to you. Today we're introducing the closure we built to do exactly that. The Adjustable Hinged is the ninth closure in our fitting system, and the first one where adjusting the fit takes no bending, no tools, and no trial and error. You just close it.
Here's what makes it different, what it carries, who it fits, and the four pairs it launches on.
One tension never fit everyone: why we built a ninth closure
Our whole brand rests on a simple observation: there is no universal clip-on, only the right one for your ear. That's why we run a fitting system instead of a single closure, matching each mechanism to ear shape, earring weight, and occasion.
But even across eight closures, adjustability came with homework. The U-Type adjusts by bending the wire. The Screw-Back adjusts click by click along a threaded post. Both work beautifully, and both ask you to do something to the earring before it fits. We kept hearing from people whose lobes sat between settings, or who loved the clean look of a hinged huggie but wanted a say in how firmly it held.
The Adjustable Hinged is our answer. It keeps the click-shut simplicity of a hinge and adds something no other closure in our system has: infinite settings between open and closed, with zero extra steps.
Closing it is the adjustment: how the friction clip works
A standard hinged closure has two states, open and shut. It snaps closed at one fixed tension, and that tension is the fit you get.
The Adjustable Hinged replaces that snap with a friction-clip arm. The arm doesn't spring to a preset endpoint. It travels smoothly, and it stops and holds at any point along the way. Swing it until the pad rests against your lobe at exactly the pressure you want, then stop. The arm stays where you left it. That's the entire adjustment.
No bending a wire and hoping you didn't overdo it. No threading a post. No remembering a setting. The act of putting the earring on is the act of fitting it, every single time. If your ears feel different at 8 AM than they do at 8 PM, a gentle nudge of the arm re-tunes the hold in about a second, on your ear, mid-conversation if you like.
This is comfort as pressure you control. There's no pinch, because pinch is what happens when a closure decides the tension for you. Here, you decide, and the friction clip simply holds your decision.
What it carries, how long it wears, and whose ears it fits
The specs, plainly:
Weight: medium capacity, built for earrings from 5 to 10 grams. That range covers real jewelry, sculptural drops, hammered discs, and stone-set statements, not just minimal studs. If you're shopping above 10 grams, our Screw-Back remains the strongest carrier in the system.
Wear time: all day. Because you set the tension yourself, you can set it for a nine-hour day rather than a two-hour dinner. Comfortable for hours is the design goal, not a stretch claim.
Lobe fit: thin, medium, and thick lobes, all of them. Fixed-tension closures are tuned around an average lobe, and plenty of ears aren't average. Because the friction arm holds at any point in its travel, there's no lobe thickness it can't meet. If standard clips have never quite fit you, this closure was built with you specifically in mind. (We went deep on that fitting challenge in our earlier piece on finding clip-ons when standard closures never quite grip; this post is about the mechanism itself, so we'll leave the full story there.)
The honest part: what you'll see, and when to pick something else
We tell you what every closure looks like from every angle, so here it is: the Adjustable Hinged mechanism is visible from the back and the side. From the front, the view that mirrors and cameras and everyone across the table gets, the earring reads as pierced. Turn your head and someone standing close behind you could spot the arm.
For most people, most days, that trade is easy: a fit you dial in yourself, in exchange for a mechanism that shows from angles almost nobody sees. If a completely seamless profile at every angle is the thing you care about most, our C-Type is the closure to look at instead, and our fit guide compares them side by side. Different priorities, different closure. That's the fitting system doing its job.
The launch lineup: four pairs on the Adjustable Hinged closure
Every piece below ships on the new closure, so the fit described above comes standard.
Gold Gemstone Drop Clip-On Earrings · $36

The headliner. Three jewel-toned stones, amethyst purple, emerald green, and deep magenta, stack into a vintage-style drop framed in warm antiqued gold bezels. The faceted cubic zirconia throws color with every movement, and at a satisfying drop weight, it's exactly the kind of earring the 5 to 10 gram range was built to hold steady from a dinner reservation through the last toast at a wedding. Set on 16K gold plated brass.
Gold Flower and Pearl Drop Clip-On Earrings · $32

Romantic enough for a wedding day, soft enough for a Tuesday. A white enamel flower with a tiny crystal center sits above a swaying shell pearl drop. Because the hold is yours to set, the pearl can swing all day without the earring going anywhere.

Gold Woven Square Clip-On Earrings · $36

White Gold Crystal Flower Clip-On Earrings · $36

For the cool-toned jewelry box. Five marquise-cut crystals fan out into a sparkling flower, each petal catching light like a burst of frost. The one pair in the launch with a cool silver-tone shine on white gold plated brass, and the same dial-it-yourself hold as the rest.
Find your fit: sixty seconds, nine closures, one answer
The Adjustable Hinged is a strong default if you want security you can fine-tune, a fit that works across thin, medium, and thick lobes, and all-day wear under a mid-weight earring. But the right closure is always personal, and guessing is the one thing our fitting system exists to eliminate.
Take the fit quiz. Answer a few questions about your ear, your wear time, and the earrings you're drawn to, and it points you to your closure in about a minute. If it lands on Adjustable Hinged, you now know exactly why. And if it lands somewhere else, even better: that's the right clip-on for your ear talking.
More earrings. Fewer rules. And now, a closure that fits because you closed it.
